Our Story
Ederra Tutoring Company grew out of the desire to share the joy of being part of a new culture - the thrill that comes with learning about new traditions, the ability to express and communicate with people of other cultures, and the main joy- the ART that lives and breathes these cultures.
Our tutoring services are art & play based - we sing, dance, create art (crafts, stories, plays), and learn through what makes us FEEL excited about a new language. We use our entire bodies, our voice, our imagination to express ourselves in this new world of language, and we have fun every step of the way.
We offer complete language-immersion programs where our comfort and our pace is priority. Our students learn in ways that is personalized to them, where they are seen, heard, and encouraged to be even more of who they are.

My name is Evangeline Alva
Evangeline's love for teaching comes from having grown up in several countries: India, Brazil, Taiwan, Japan, Kuwait, UAE, USA, and Mexico. She speak 6 languages, and is fluent in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Hindi, Konkani, and ASL (American Sign Language). She is currently in the process of getting her Masters degree in Spanish-language education, and tutoring is a joy for her to have everyday.
She graduated from USC (University of Southern California) with a Bachelors degree in Linguistics, which is the science of language. (She also studied at university in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Hsinchu, Taiwan). With this degree, she has learned how to break down language from its very foundation, and this has given her a lot of expertise in teaching English, Spanish and Portuguese. She was previously an interpreter in these three languages. She was able to learn HOW to teach a language to a student as well. She studied in-depth the grammar, syntax, sounds and how they all come together to create self-expression. It was a beautiful and extremely beneficial learning experience, for when she teach her students Spanish or Portuguese these days, she can explain the logic of the grammar rules and help them compare it to English so that they remember through relational learning and association.
Evangeline has tutored for the past 10 years- students ages 6 - 45. Her specialty lies in bringing together not just the language, but all the aspects of language that make it interesting: culture, music, art, dance, history, colloquialism. She deeply believes in personalized learning and as such, tailors each lesson plan according to her students interests.
